Thea Lanzisero
Interdisciplinary Artist
Alum
As a multidisciplinary artist and sculptor, my practice is based on concepts and ideas that drive exploration into materials and processes. I'm interested in working with groups to consider important questions and find unique ways of expressing ideas as art and communication with communities.
I'm drawn to the idea of interconnectedness in the web of life between all things—from invisible atoms and molecules to the expansive choreography of planets and galaxies, to actions people make in the world. This interwoven field of energy and vibration reflects my curiosity about time, space, and the fragile, mysterious nature of being on this planet we call home
My work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally, including locally at the Heckscher Museum of Art (NY), Sculpture Key West (FL), Governor’s Island (NY), Brooklyn Bridge Park (NY), Penn State University (PA), and in the EU, Rhodes (Greece), Matera and Brescia (Italy), Stavanger (Norway), and Berlin (Germany).
I have received grants from NYFA, NYSCA, and JPMorgan Chase, and my work is in both private and public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture (MUSMA) in Matera, Italy. Notable public art commissions include Archer Hotel in Manhattan and the Anne Frank Memorial Garden in Dix Hills, NY.
I hold an MFA in Public Practice from CUNY Queens College and a BFA in Visual Arts from SUNY Purchase. I have taught sculpture and art at CUNY Brooklyn College, CUNY BMCC, and SUNY Farmingdale. I am a former President and current Member of the Sculptors Guild in New York City.
