Basia Kurlender
Visual Artist, Cultural Events Organizer, and Graphic Designer
Basia Kurlender is an artist, a graphic designer, an illustrator, a sign painter, a chain stitch embroiderer, a candy corn truther (the truth is that it’s good), an art director, a concert promoter, an art workshop organizer, a good friend, a curator, and a lot of other things. Her work is medium-agnostic and is always guided by the message.
Kurlender owns and operates her own commercial graphic design and fabrication studio called GREAT BETTER BEST (LLC), which was awarded a “Woman Owned Business Enterprise” certification by New York State in 2023. Her clients include Snapchat, Nike, McDonald’s, Venmo, Peloton, and Vans. She holds a BFA in Communications Design (Summa cum laude) from Pratt Institute. Kurlender was highlighted by AIGA for her undergraduate thesis, “All Men Are Friends,” which she presented at the AIGA Education Warmup Series.
In addition to her visual work, Kurlender also organizes cultural events — including concerts, creative workshops, curated art shows, film screenings, literary talks, and skateboarding festivals — as Ballpark Figure Booking. Kurlender has booked over 90 bands at more than 30 concerts and live radio sessions. Her mission with Ballpark Figure Booking is to provide Long Islanders with culturally rich, accessible, and inclusive entertainment while also highlighting local artists and musicians. Ballpark Figure Booking’s combined live music & art workshop event series, “Songs and Zines,” was awarded a 2025 Cultural Competitive Grant by Suffolk County.
